The VRE Train Brain
The Virginia Railway Express has been using the Train Brain on their website since June of 2000. The VRE is the first Commuter Railroad to use the Train Brain to display Real-Time positions of their trains as they travel in and out of Washington D.C. This means, if an actual VRE train is running 10 minutes late, the Train Brain will display the train 10 minutes behind schedule, and the train will blink to indicate it is running late.
The VRE has integrated their GPS locator system and their Train Information Provider to send updates to the Train Brain Java Applet. The VRE Train Brain is running on the VRE's Website Service Disruption page at http://www.vre.org/trainbrain/disrupt.shtml
To learn more about the project you can read an article in the VRE's Commuter Weekly Newsletter at http://www.vre.org/service/commuterweekly/trainbrain.htm
